A traditional Spanish language folk song widely used in the Cursillo movement and by the United Farm Workers. Believed to have originated in Spain, the song was brought to the Americas in the 16th century and circulated widely throughout colonial Mexico, with lyrics expressing joy and celebrating the vibrant colors found in creation. It was enthusiastically adopted by the Catholic Cursillo movement in the 1940s as a reflection of participants' commitment to Christ, and later became the unofficial anthem of the United Farm Workers union in the 1960s and 1970s, sung at rallies and marches to symbolize the dignity and struggle of farm workers.
