Frosty the Snowman
Lyrics
Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,
He was made of snow but the children know
How he came to life one day.
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,
He was made of snow but the children know
How he came to life one day.
History and Meaning
Written by Walter "Jack" Rollins and Steve Nelson in 1950, partially in response to the success of 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'. Following Gene Autry's massive success with "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" in 1949, which became a No. 1 hit and the first No. 1 song of the 1950s, Rollins and Nelson specifically presented "Frosty the Snowman" to him hoping for another seasonal hit. Gene Autry recorded "Frosty the Snowman" with the Cass County Boys in 1950, solidifying his connection to both beloved holiday classics.
