Let It Snow!

Written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in July 1945 during a heat wave in California, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" was first recorded in the fall of 1945 by Vaughn Monroe and His Orchestra, with Monroe providing the vocal refrain alongside The Norton Sisters. Released shortly after Thanksgiving that year, Monroe's version quickly became a hit, reaching number one on the Billboard "Best Sellers" music chart for five weeks from late December 1945 into early 1946. Interestingly, the song was penned during a heatwave in Hollywood as Cahn and Styne imagined cooler, snowier conditions, and despite its strong association with the Christmas and holiday season, "Let It Snow!" notably makes no mention of any specific holiday—its lyrics instead describe a cozy indoor scene during a snowstorm, focusing on romance and warmth. Over the decades, the song has been covered by numerous famous artists, including Frank Sinatra in 1950 and Dean Martin in 1959, with Martin's rendition often considered one of the most familiar versions today.
