History and Meaning
The refrain \"vive la compagnie\" (“long live the company”) appeared in 19th-century British and French songbooks. Camp leaders later softened the verses for children, keeping the round-style chorus that’s easy for groups to echo.
Today it’s sung at scout camps and classrooms as a friendship song, often in two or three parts to practice harmony and call-and-response.
